RISING S T A R S C O R N E R – HANS HEYNAU

The “Rising Stars Corner” is a chance to share some Novice and Tutorial type info with new members
and/or for the benefit of those are just thinking about getting into amateur astronomy (our Rising
Stars). If you fit this description, you’re invited to look into the items in the “Corner” or share them
with someone who might benefit from them. No particular schedule is planned for the Corner – it
will depend on what interest it seems to generate. If the series seems useful to you, let me know
what kinds of items you might be interested in for future Rising Stars Corners.
This month’s tidbits are:

1) There is a series of YouTube videos (over 100 to date) titled “Eyes on the Sky”. Topical interest
features and occasional humor make for some interesting watching of a helpful series, Of
particular interest might be The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Telescopes and Amateur
Astronomy (an article, in contrast to the typical video presentations): http://

Amateur-Astronomy.aspx

2) Another YouTube series that might interest Novice observers comes from a location not too
distant for us in Florida. The facility is called Kissimmee Park Observatory (KPO) and the main
thrust is how to do star hopping to find various interesting features. One example episode
features M106, M101, and M51: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6wlJgjK9H4. For a
background on the purpose and range of coverage, take a look at the KPO YouTube Channel
