Saturday Night Viewing at Kye's Star Farm
July 10, 2004
George DeBarros
I arrived late Friday night and set up my pop-up which was already parked
at Kye's property from the time before. The skies were completely clear
for all of Friday night and Kye and I did a little viewing, preparing
ourselves for Saturday night. The weather Saturday started off partly
cloudy and, as usual, we had our afternoon threat of a thunderstorm which
never developed. By evening, it had cleared up and it stayed clear
throughout the night. Jim Kimble and Jim Mayes arrived and set up their
equipment. As it got darker, the Milky Way got brighter and more
beautiful than ever.
The night went along perfectly, with Jim Kimble imaging M51 in color for
the first time, and then switching to M16. Hopefully, we'll have some
pictures included in this report. Jim Mayes on the other hand had his
hands full with his new 10" Starmaster and viewed through a long observing
list he had brought. Also, Kye and a friend (Donna Lee) had telescopes
out. Donna brought a old Tasco with a heavy duty tripod which she got
for a present, and we all took turns trying that scope for the first
time. As for myself, I brought my 10" Starmaster and viewed T-Lyrae,
which was a terrific blood red in color. By the end of the night, I
also viewed my still unnamed red and blue double star in Cassiopea which
was very satisfying to me. Like I previously said, the evening went
extremely well without a hitch, and by 4AM the Moon had risen, and we
all called it an evening.
