Although there was no viewing session on the calendar, the clarity of the daytime sky gave the promise clear skies at night, so I packed up my telescope and camera and headed out into the Everglades. The primary target for the evening was to be the first-time comet C2004 (Machholz), and if I had any time left over, I could turn my scope to any other object that I took a fancy to. After following the comet for a half an hour, I looked at the core of M31, then a few minutes of the flame. I had to go to work on Tuesday, so I called it a night and went home to get some sleep.
