THE CLUB PICNIC – STEPHEN SCHIFF

Neither rain, wind, flooding, thunder or lightning prevented twenty-three brave souls from attending
our club picnic, held on Saturday, March 19TH at J.D. State Park. By 2:00 p.m., the Loxahatchee Pavilion
was surrounded by a foot of water. When the rains stopped, the flood drained quickly from the
sidewalks and our patio and our members began to arrive, along with the food. And what food it was;
plentiful subs of all kinds, great salads, veggie, cheese and fruit platters, as well as, goodies donated to
the cause by club members. The food catered by Publix of Tequesta was enjoyed by everyone. In the
words of one club member, “The food and company were great, in spite of the weather. In the end,
that’s what being astronomers in South Florida is all about. It sure isn’t about cooperative skies.”
Thanks to all who attended! About next year, how about something during the dry season or, better
yet, inside!
